NestPDF

Convert a PDF to greyscale for cheaper, cleaner printing

Turn a colourful PDF into greyscale so it prints cheaply on a black-and-white printer and looks consistent. NestPDF renders each page and desaturates it right in your browser, so your document is never uploaded.

Questions about this tool

Does this really make the PDF print in grey?

Yes. Every page is converted to true greyscale, so a colour printer won't use any colour ink and a mono printer reproduces it faithfully.

Will the text still be selectable afterwards?

No — greyscale conversion works by rendering each page to an image and desaturating it, so the output is rasterised. We show a clear warning before you download. If you need selectable text, keep the original.

Why would I want a greyscale PDF?

Greyscale documents print more cheaply, avoid odd colour shifts on mono printers, and produce smaller files for things like contracts and handouts.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Rendering and desaturation happen entirely in your browser.
